I wanted denim blue skates, but had to settle for purple wheels. |
I've never had my own skates. (except for the ones that attached to your shoes, and sized with a key. I remember the vibration of those early skates on the pavement. You had to watch out for the cracks in the sidewalk or you would end up on the concrete.) Being a bit older now, I became uncomfortably aware of how many other sweaty feet have occupied the rental skates before mine, and decided it was time for a pair of my own.
Sunday after church, I asked my husband if he would accompany me to the rink so that I could try out my new skates. He tried roller skating a few years back, and didn't like it. But he agreed to come and watch, and even gallantly tied my skates for me (so sweet).
I'm the one in the purple sweater |
Happy Skating,
I used to roller skate at the local rink when I was a kid. Later on when roller blading came out, I did that, too! Skating is fun, and your never too old for your own pair of skates :) Your grand daughters are gonna love it!
ReplyDeleteI used to roller skate and remember always looking for the key! Thanks for the memory!
ReplyDeleteI love to roller skate! On real roller skates, not the inline kind... :)
ReplyDeleteI have never roller skated, but would love to try. It sure looks like fun. I do yoga, wonder if that would help with the balancing:) What a fun thing to do with your granddaugther.
ReplyDeleteI was never very good at it either but I do remember how fun it was. However, at this age, I'd probably break a hip! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteGO Grandma!! I'm not even a grandma yet.. and just the idea of it.. makes me hurt!!
ReplyDeleteThat is one sweet pair of skates! How fun!
ReplyDeleteFun! Fun!

I used to skate 3 nights a week when I was a kid. I haven't been in years though. Enjoy those skates!
ReplyDeleteYay rollerskates! We're actually going to have our engagement party at a roller rink. :)
ReplyDeleteI have not roller skated since the late 70s, so I suspect I would not be very steady on my feet, and my knees are in considerably worse shape. It will be great exercise and great fun, though, with your new roller skates. Congrats on taking the plunge!
ReplyDeleteI remember my skates with the key and always forgetting where I put it...what wonderful memories are coming back! And what wonderful memories you are making with the grandkids!
ReplyDeleteLoved, loved, loved roller skating as a kid.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new skates!
