52 Week Challenge - Week 5

February, the month of l♥ve.

I am loving this challenge.  This week I finished up a set of placemats that were started in the Fall.  The fabrics are from In the Beginning, specifically the Oceanica line.  I really enjoy the weaving process in this project.  But the beginning part where I have to bend and sew down the edges isn't as much fun, and that is where I got stuck.

Four Cotton Woven Placemats
Instead of making each one from start to finish, I decided to do them assembly line style.  So each step of the process was repeated three times (I had completed one mat previously), whether I liked it or not.  It did seem to go more quickly this way, and I am pleased with the results.  The pottery pictured was made by my cousin Stephanie.

If anyone is interested in making their own set, you can get the directions from my new "Fun and Free Tutes" page.  Access it by way of the tab on top of my blog.

Can't wait to see what you all have been up to.

Let's get busy!
P.S. - If you missed the January Round Up, you can see it here

And be sure to check out Judy Nolan's wonderful write up about some of the participants in the 52 week challenge here.

  2. Kym, I have some of this canvas in my stash, and prefer this weaving of fabric over locker hooking. I think I will have to try this; it really looks fun! These might be Christmas gifts 11 months from now.

  3. Oh dear I missed this week! But I really did get something done. A dozen of my needle candies are now at the quilt shop! I'll be blogging later about my activities.
I love your placemats and I just might try something similar. Oh that reminds me of another project to add to my UFO stash!
