Just a Weed

Who decided these are weeds anyway?

I like Wikipedia's definition:

~ Weed is an every day term used in a variety of senses, usually to describe a plant considered undesirable within a certain context. The word—commonly applied to unwanted plants in human-controlled settings, such as farm fields, gardens, lawns, and parks—carries no botanical classification value, since a plant that is a weed in one context is not a weed when growing where it is wanted. Indeed, a number of plants that many consider weeds are often intentionally grown in gardens and other cultivated settings.

Beauty is all around,

  1. I have often thought that myself. We have some beautiful trumpet-like flowers that grow up a tree on the corner of our driveway. They are breathtaking, but someone once said, "It is just a weed." Well, weed or no, they stay and I like them. Don't know what they are, but they are wanted strays. :)

  2. My most favorite "weed" is found on roadsides everywhere around here (also other areas). It's chicory! I just love the blue flowers that it makes! They are so cheery as I drive by!

    1. I love chicory too! In fact, I had planned to include some in this post, as well as Queen Anne's Lace. I may still do that.

  3. The bindweed is so pretty, but such a nuisance on the allotment!
