Block of the Month Table Runner

 Whirlpool Table Runner

Here is a project using three Whirlpool blocks from last week’s Block of the Month.

This is a diamond patterned quilted table runner measuring 16" wide x 40" long.

Here's What You Will Need:

  • ¾ yard of fabric for borders and backing.  I used fabrics from Kathy Davis newest line Wildflower. 10” square scrap for cornerstones.
  • Cotton Batting  My personal preference is for Warm and Natural

Cutting:

  • Cut 3 strips 2 ½” wide x WOF for borders.  Subcut two of these strips to  36 ½” long for the long borders. Cut the other strip into two 2 ½” x 12 ½ “  pieces for the short borders.
  • Cut the backing piece 16 ½” wide by 40 ½” long
  • Cut four contrasting cornerstone pieces 2 ½” square each
  • Cut batting 16 ½” x 40 ½”

Sewing:
[Sew  ¼” seams throughout this project]
  •  Sew three whirlpool blocks together using ¼” seam.
  • Sew 36 ½” borders to long edges of joined blocks.
  • Sew cornerstone pieces to short border strips on either end.
  • Sew joined cornerstone/short border pieces to short edges of runner, matching corners.
  • Layer backing and top right sides together.  Layer batting on top of backing and top.  Stitch around all four edges, leaving a 4” opening for turning.
  • Turn right side out.
  • Press
  • Quilt as desired.  I stitched in the ditch around the diamond shape and then filled in the blocks with an all over stippling.  I also stitched one straight line down the center of each border, and close to the edge of the cornerstone blocks.

I would love to see a picture of your finished runner. Link up on the last Wednesday of every month during my twelve month challenge.
