September in Bloom

I love the way my mailbox looks at this time of year.

It takes all summer for the clematis to grow,
and then it bursts into bloom at the end of August.

Just a Weed

Who decided these are weeds anyway?

I like Wikipedia's definition:

~ Weed is an every day term used in a variety of senses, usually to describe a plant considered undesirable within a certain context. The word—commonly applied to unwanted plants in human-controlled settings, such as farm fields, gardens, lawns, and parks—carries no botanical classification value, since a plant that is a weed in one context is not a weed when growing where it is wanted. Indeed, a number of plants that many consider weeds are often intentionally grown in gardens and other cultivated settings.

Garden Photo Opp

My favorite flowering bush in July.

The blossoms are HUGE!  And they last a long time.

Spring is Blooming All Around Me

Isn't this just the most beautiful time of year?

Ornamental Pear
Peach Tree
These two trees are in full bloom in my yard right now.

Look What's Blooming in my Yard in October

I don't know the name of this daisy like plant, but it grows waxy green leaves all summer, and then bursts into bloom when the colder weather hits.

The leaves turn an ugly brown in the cold, and the plant sprawls open in an untidy mess unless we corral the stalks when they are young.  But the flowers are glorious, as you can see by this photo my  husband took this afternoon after a cold October drizzle (isn't he a good photographer!).

Johnny Jump Ups

My husband has become quite the photographer.  He takes a lot of pictures of medical instruments up close and personal at his job.  The skills he has learned translate wonderfully into taking macro photos at home.

Take a look at the beautiful shots he got of some violas growing by our front door.

I love the way his photographs magnify just how amazing these little flowers are.

Mailbox Clematis

I planted this clematis last Fall.

This is the first time it has been in full bloom.  It looks so pretty around our mailbox, and smells lovely.

The bees love it too!
