My daughter-in-law made this beautiful sweater for her niece (my granddaughter), and gave it to her this past weekend, just in time for the start of Spring.
I am in awe of her talent. She took a basic pattern and added her own flair, with cuffed sleeves, ruffled edging, cable stitching, and the Pièce de résistance - froggy buttons.
Would you believe that her knitting skills have rubbed off on my son as well? He too has taken up knitting. He claims that long ago, knitting was a male-dominated trade. Sailors were known to knit their own windproof sweaters for long voyages.
The warm and wonderful mohawk hat pictured below is an example of his work.
They have been teaching their two young daughters to knit also. I have seen all four lined up on the couch with their needles clicking. It's like a knitting factory!
You've heard the saying about the family that knits together, right?
How wonderful! And yes, knitting of old was always a man's domain-it was always considered a man's territory alone, and only men could actually have status with it and become Master Knitters (and as such, earn a living!)
ReplyDeleteLove the knitting on the couch! You must get a photo of that one day!
That's great! My mom knits but for some reason I crochet...but we used to sit on the couch and do it together. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great family of crafters you have!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great!
ReplyDeleteAnd their handiwork looks really good!
Wow! That is wonderful. I love that they are all working together to create. That sweater is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I'm always in awe of people with the talent and patience to knit. My husband's grandmother taught me to knit and I've now been working on the same baby hat for a year and a half. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat sweater is just gorgeous! Love the image of the family knitting together on the couch!
ReplyDeleteI love the whole idea : )
ReplyDeleteLoving the sweater, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe sweater is beautiful! It is so neat that the whole little family knits together!
ReplyDeleteThat sweater is wonderful - she needs to design and write patterns. :) blessings, marlene

Wow, that's awesome! A knitting family is so cool. I taught my sister and nephews how to knit and we had so much fun! Unfortunately they live on the other side of the U.S. though, so we don't get to knit together unless I'm visiting them :-/
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous sweater! I don't knit, but both my husband and I crochet. You'll find both of us in the family room each evening, usually "hooking."
