Revel in Fall's Beauty

Seems like there is always so much to do during this time of year.  Rake leaves, clean up the garden for winter, get ready for the Holidays, plus all the usual chores of housework.  Saturdays have such a long list of to-do's to choose from, and at the end of the day it seems that most of the list is still undone (sigh).

Still, I can't forget to revel in the beauty of the season.

It is so fleeting and must be enjoyed while it lasts.

More Wool and Emery Pincushions

While waiting during my eldest granddaughter's dance class last night, I finished another pincushion.

Said granddaughter actually felted the second one. She did a good job, didn't she?
The third one will be listed in my shop this morning.

I like these projects because they are portable and fun to do.  The fact that the result is pretty and practical at the same time helps too.  Ideas for different designs are floating in my brain for these, but they will have to wait until I order more wool.   I have used up the last of the red wool in two pincushions waiting in the wings, so it's time to order some different colors.

Don't forget to check out the "What I have on Sale Now" link on the right sidebar.

NonTeam Treasury Challenge - Week 2

A new week, a new challenge for the nonteam treasury makers.  Last week's winner, and this week's featured item went to FlutterbyeNotes and her Love Speech Bubble Card.

So far, 86 treasuries have been made featuring this item. It's amazing how many different themes people have come up with.  You can see them all here.

P.S. - One of the treasuries made the front page of Etsy again this week, hooray!

Treasury Team that isn't a Team

Recently I became a nonmember of a new team that isn't a team on Etsy.  The idea behind the nonteam is that the participation level can be as high or low as a nonmember wants.  Each week a new treasury challenge will be posted featuring the winning treasury maker from the week before.  Having many (this week it is over 100) treasuries made including an item from the winners shop ensures lots of exposure, and maybe even a front page feature on Etsy (as happened this week)

Here is my treasury entry for this week entitled, "Fill Your Paper with the Breathings of Your Heart," a quote from William Wordsworth.

The featured winner this week is Awaken Journaling, with a lovely leather journal.
You can read more about the challenge on the nonteam blog.

Free Motion Fun

One of my favorite blogs is 365 Days of Free Motion Quilting Filler Designs by Leah Day.  She offers tutorials of free motion quilting and lots of tips for successful quilting on her site.  If you scroll down the sidebar of her blog, you can find the designs grouped by difficulty level.

This weekend I have been having loads of fun trying out some of her more simple designs on a Christmas stocking project I'm working on.  Here are some of the results.

Because of the busyness of the fabric, much of the quilting doesn't show up as well as it would on a more solid fabric.  But at this point in my free motion skills, that is okay.  I like the way they turned out.  And it made quilting a lot of stockings more fun, even though it took longer than it would have with simple stippling.

Autumn is the season for Quilts.  Their color and warmth make the transition from summer to winter more palatable.  If you are looking for some Quilty goodness to warm up chilly fall evenings, check out the beautiful handmade items made by the Quiltsy Team on Etsy.

Wearing HandMade

As I was driving to work this morning, I suddenly realized that all my accessories were hand-made by fellow Etsians.  I had my favorite little leather bag and wallet made by Gardenour Leather.

was wearing earrings from Affordable Fun's shop

and a brand new bracelet I just got from CrippleCreekWoodWork.

I love supporting fellow artisans and their work. And you can be sure that no one else at my day job will be wearing the same thing.

Please check out the above mentioned shops for more unique offerings.

New Konas Just In !

Waiting for fabric to arrive is always exciting!  Today I got a shipment of kona cotton.  Kona is great because you can use either side (like batiks), has a high thread count, and wonderful drape-ability.

Some of the new colors which arrived are Dresden Blue, Aloe, and Blush Pink.

In other news, I found this cute gadget case in PuppyDogsnPolkaDots shop made with Keri Beyer fabric she purchased from FabricFascination. She has graciously allowed me to use her pictures in a cross promotion with the fabric.

I love seeing what you all have made with fabrics you've purchased.  Keep those pictures coming!  And remember, if I use them in a promotion, you receive 20 points toward a $10 gift certificate from my shop.

October Weekend

We've had such a fun weekend.

I finished quilting this quilt that a friend and I made for a new baby in our church.

This is the first of two atypical baby quilts I've made this fall.  Both sets of parents requested themes in not the usual babyish colors.  Keeps it interesting.

We celebrated our eldest granddaughter's 11th birthday by hiking on a local escarpment, buying apples and cider doughnuts, getting a pet guinea pig and all the luggage that goes along with it, roller skating, pizza, and cupcakes.

And right now I have a livingroom full of sleeping little girls.

Life is good.
